---------------------------------------------------

Speak N Read is designed for one-on-one communication. Perfect as a tool in the workplace, doctor’s offices, hospitals, public assistance offices and at home. The device can also be connected to a large monitor or projection screen if needed.

Speak n Read is one of the world's smallest Windows XP computers. This ultra mobile personal computer (UMPC) is a fully-featured Windows 7 computer. It has an Intel Z520 1.33 Ghz processor, a 60GB hard drive, 1 GB of RAM, a color touch panel 4.8" display with virtual keyboard, GPS, an integrated wireless internet connection, 6 hours continuous battery life and 200 hours of standby time, and 2 USB ports.Fits in a pocket, purse or pouch (dimensions: 154 x 84 x 24.4 mm, weight: 15.6 oz.).

The Speak n Read System is based on a UMPC (ultra mobile Windows 7 PC), with voice recognition, sound separation and filtering, artificial intelligence and optical transmission system that allows the speaker to talk normally and for the deaf person to see the words so they can read them. This occurs in real time, without delay. It works for one-on-one and multiple speaker conversations.

A person speaks in a normal tone of voice, the computer translates the spoken words into text so the hard of hearing person can read them on the monitor's screen (or heads-up-display). The hearing disabled person either speaks back if they have voice capability or by a keyboard if they need to type the response. The system can be trained to allow the disabled person's mumbled, or not clear voice, so that the system can translate it into words and display them on the monitor. At the present some voice training is required of the speakers. It takes about 15 minutes to get an understandable conversation. The artificial intelligence program increases the accuracy to near 100% with use. Even non-disabled persons do not speak 100% correctly all the time.

The Speak n Read System is based on a UMPC (ultra mobile Windows 7 PC), with voice recognition, sound separation and filtering, artificial intelligence and optical transmission system that allows the speaker to talk normally and for the deaf person to see the words so they can read them. The ApStack is the proprietary software that makes the SNR system work. The Application may look complex and it is. But, it is very easy to use. All you do is turn it "on", "talk" and "read". The computer and computer programs do the rest. To protect the proprietary software it is embedded, encrypted and secured within the circuitry of the system. First, it cannot be found. Second, if it is and any attempt is made to copy, modify or move it the software will become inoperable.

Voice recognition is "the technology by which sounds, words or phrases spoken by humans are converted into electrical signals, and these signals are transformed into coding patterns to which meaning has been assigned" [ADA90]. While the concept could more generally be called "sound recognition", we focus here on the human voice because we most often and most naturally use our voices to communicate our ideas to others in our immediate surroundings. In the context of a virtual environment, the user would presumably gain the greatest feeling of immersion, or being part of the simulation, if they could use their most common form of communication, the voice. The difficulty in using voice as an input to a computer simulation lies in the fundamental differences between human speech and the more traditional forms of computer input. While computer programs are commonly designed to produce a precise and well-defined response upon receiving the proper (and equally precise) input, the human voice and spoken words are anything but precise. Each human voice is different, and identical words can have different meanings if spoken with different inflections or in different contexts. Several approaches have been tried, with varying degrees of success, to overcome these difficulties.

APSTACK's Artificial Intelligence:
The branch of computer science concerned with making computers behave like humans is called artificial intelligence, or a synthetic brain. It is this proprietary program that makes the "Speak 'n Read" system superior to any other voice recognition software on the market. It shortens the time it takes to learn to use the systems and improves the accuracy with use and makes the system a thought processor.

System includes:
Viliv S5 UMPC, Standard Battery, ApStack Software, AC Power Adapter, Stylus, VGA Cable, Tripod Omni-Directional Microphone, Soft Carrying Pouch and Operator Instructions

Note: All orders are custom-built. Allow 2-4 weeks for delivery. There is a 7-day return policy on this device with a 20% re-stocking fee (only if unopened). If defective within 30 days, it will be exchanged for a new one. One year warranty on hardware. Lifetime warranty on software.
